Need for the Programme

01 Deleterious effects of Malocclusion The society unanimously recognizes the significance of early screening of malocclusion due to its correlation with the onset of periodontitis, dental caries, TMJ disorders, and trauma. More than half of the population is unaware of the scope of orthodontic treatment in correcting these problems, and thus, they do not seek any assistance from specialized orthodontists Malocclusion adversely affect oral functions Mouth Breathing Speech Impairment Masticatory Problems Swallowing Problems Trauma 02 An insight into struggles of Indian oral healthcare systems In India, malocclusion prevalence among school children ranges from 12.5% to 33.3%. Despite being the second most common dental disorder in India, more than half of the population is unaware of the benefits of orthodontic treatment, leading them to not seek assistance In India, the prevalence of malocclusion among school-going children has been reported in the range of 12.5% to 33.3%. The recognition of malocclusion as an important problem in the public dental health services for children implies a need for rational planning of preventive and therapeutic orthodontic measures. It is necessary to carry out epidemiologic studies of malocclusion in groups of boys and girls from different geographic areas. Analysis of the prevalence rates of malocclusion in such groups may also contribute to an understanding of the causes of malocclusion.
